Welcome to ST MARY CLASS PAGE
A very warm welcome to Reception. We are are so excited to begin this special year together, as you and your children join our school community. This is such an important milestone, and we feel privileged to share it with you.
In Reception, learning is full of discovery, creativity and joy. Our days are carefully planned to nurture children's curiosity, build confidence and encourage independence. The EYFS curriculum is play-based and focuses on developing the whole child through seven areas or learning:
Communication and language
Physical Development
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
We are blessed to have St Mary as our class saint. St Mary inspires us with her faith, love and care for others. We will reflect on her example throughout the year as we grow together in our school community.
We look forward to a wonderful year filled with learning, laughter and new beginnings. Together, we will support your child's journey so they can flourish, feel happy and secure, and be proud of all they achieve.
Warmest wishes,

This terms Caritas Curriculum Learning
In Reception this term, we begin our journey rooted in the Caritas principle of Love of Self—learning to recognise that each child is wonderfully made by God, unique, loved, and capable. Through our topics Myself and Ticket to Ride, we explore who we are, what makes us special, and how we can care for our bodies, minds, and hearts.
As we start school, we gently settle into new routines. Children learn where things belong, how to look after their belongings, and how to take pride in caring for their environment. They discover that loving themselves includes making good choices, keeping themselves safe, and trying new things with confidence.
Throughout the term, the children begin taking part in assemblies and wider school events, learning that they belong to a larger community where their presence matters. They learn that being part of a community helps them grow, and that when they celebrate who they are, they inspire others to do the same.
As we move towards Christmas, excitement builds for our first Nativity. This special moment helps children recognise their role in sharing joy and light with others. By taking part—singing, acting, or simply being present—they grow in confidence and celebrate the gifts God has placed within them.
By the end of the autumn term, our Reception children have taken their first steps in understanding Love of Self: recognising their uniqueness, celebrating their talents, and beginning their school journey with pride, joy, and a sense of God’s love surrounding them.
Reception Caritas Learning Overview
This term, our Caritas theme is 'Love of Self'. We emphasise how each child is an individual who is loved by God and celebrate diversity.

P.E.
In PE, we are focusing on working together as well as our throwing and catching skills.
Other Helpful Hints
In Reception, we encourage independence. It is great if your little one is able to put on their coat independently and can recognise their own name.
